Happy Father’s Day, from Kimberly Maycock Music!
Recently, my sweet husband- the amazing father of our two beautiful children- who I love and admire more than anyone in this world opened up to me that sometimes the struggles of life (& especially life as a father) feel like a line from “Hamilton”-
“The moments when you’re in so deep it feels easier to just swim down”
The weight of what he was saying hit me and I felt compassion not only as a fellow parent but for fathers in particular. They shoulder not only the primary burden of provision for their families but are expected to also be present for them often in the midst of unspeakable struggles that they feel the need to hide so they can be strong for their loved ones. This comes all in the midst of a society that tries too often to downplay the importance of their divine roles & worth.
Well, I felt that I needed to do something to encourage not only my sweetheart but any father (or anyone else for that matter) who feels like they are drowning, sinking under the weight of pain, stress, or fatigue. To you, I say- Your strength is needed, noticed, and UNIMAGINABLE. This encouragement comes in the form of an adaptation of a favorite song “It’s Quiet Uptown” from the sensational: “Hamilton- An American Musical” by Lin Manuel Miranda- I’ve titled this version: “Unimaginable Strength.”
Finally, I found this beautiful painting by Yongsung Kim entitled “The Hand of God.” If, like the poetically tragic line above, you feel “it’s easier to just swim down,”, remember instead to “look around” for support from those who love/depend on you and then look up for help from God who loves you most of all!
Please share this musical message with a Father who could use a little extra understanding, encouragement, and strength this Father’s Day!
With love and gratitude,
Kimberly Maycock
Lyrics
There are moments that the words don’t reach
There is suffering too terrible to name
You hold your child as tight as you can
Then push away the unimaginable
The moments when you’re in so deep
Feels easier to just swim down
You’ve learned to live with the unimaginable
If you see him in the street, walking by himself
Talking to himself, have pity
He is working through the unimaginable
His hair is going grey, he passes every day
They say he walks the length of the city
You get knocked out and fall apart
Can you imagine?
Look at where you are
Look at where you started
Ya know, you don’t deserve this pain
But hear me out, that would be enough
If I could spare this trial
If I could trade your pain for mine
You’d be standing here right now
And you would smile, and that would be enough
I don’t pretend to know the challenges you’re facing
I know there’s no replacing what you’ve lost
And you need time
But I’m not afraid, I know who I married
Just let me stay here by your side
And that would be enough
Forgiveness, can you imagine?
Forgiveness, can you imagine?
I see you in the street, walking by yourself
Talking to yourself, I have pity)
Look around, look around
Your strength is unimaginable
